Observations from experiences on company building:
- Likability: Find out why each team member likes working with your startup. No startup or large company will be likable by everyone. This small exercise is worth the small effort. It can yield useful insights about company building. And the sooner the founders get this right, the more the momentum is for company building.
- Turbulence: Now and then, turbulent times will pop up for the company. One way to stay calm is to have an anchor. Anchor could be your vision. Or it could be something unrelated that is going good for you. Or something good happening in your personal life. Or within the family. It helps if one part of your life is stable.
- Frequency: This is one of the simplest of the company building hacks. If something works, make it part of company processes. And increase the frequency. If something hurts, reduce the frequency. Too many weekly update meetings falls in the latter category.
- Micro-Habits: Like our personal life, tiny habits help in company building. They add up over time, and results are very beneficial. And the best part is that it is difficult for others to produce the same results quick. Do super small things that take time. Almost all the time. Afterwards, the competition will need all the time to catch up with you. By the time they try it, you would be so far ahead that it won't even be competition.
