In continuation of my earlier note, here are some more areas that interest me:
- Synthetic Biology: Humans are selfish, and for a good reason. We love ourselves. So why not use synthetic biology to prevent problems before they happen in our bodies? We have also messed up our natural environment to a great extent. Synthetic biology also has usefulness in agriculture and manufacturing. As long as we respect the ethical boundaries, applications are plenty.
- Digital Currency: We are still cutting trees and digging metals to create currency. Seems like an antique artifact that we want to preserve. High time some progressive governments and central banks enable digital currency adoption.
- Specialized Platforms: Humans choices oscillate between simplicity and complexity. Simple black coffee was bliss many decades ago. Now even a dozen variants in our local coffee shop can't meet our cravings. Generic social media platforms aren't providing people what they want. Will this be the golden decade that will see the emergence of specialized platforms?
- Climate Migration: Cataclysmic events are increasing with no correlation to the past. Flooding, drought, wildfires, earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, and other unforeseen natural disasters. These will trigger many migrations in the coming years. Everyone will experience impact: consumers, businesses, and governments. Some will stick it out, many will move. Massive opportunity in prediction, prevention, and settlement.
- Vocational Education: Jobs are getting obsolete due to automation, outsourcing, and relocations. Businesses are keeping pace with the times. But the vocational education sector is stuck in the past. Huge segment for creating many billion-dollar companies.
- Borderless Classrooms: With the current coronavirus pandemic remote work has finally taken off. Will some segments of education also go remote? The majority of the worldwide enrollment in K-12 education is in government-run schools. Tough nut to crack, but monetization is straightforward.
- Alternative Investing: Private market capital deployment has overtaken the public markets. And this gap will increase. Only a select few individuals and entities have access to private markets. For the betterment of everyone, this should change.
- Multimedia Search: Audio, image and video search has seen small progress. But it has yet to go mainstream. Each of these sub-segments are huge. And they will widen the user base multifold.
- Decentralized Healthcare: Even routine healthcare in most developed countries is expensive. And if you need specialized treatment, may the heavens be with you. A convoluted system controlled by healthcare providers and insurers is ripe for disruption.
- Industrial Automation: The fourth industrial revolution is still in its infancy. Amazing economic productivity awaits as it reaches adulthood. Boring, but a lucrative sector.
