Progressing by Retrogressing
Have you noticed how a wave of startups is solving today's problems? By leveraging our past lifestyle! Progress doesn't always mean new or different. Often old is gold.
Let us look at some of these problems:
These problems are more relevant to the current times. Even the means and approaches to solve them are modern. But the clues lie in the past. Almost like digging a hidden treasure. Let us keep digging, it is profitable!
Let us look at some of these problems:
- Sleep: Our parents and grandparents were rarely sleep deprived. But sleep deprivation is common today.
- Anxiety: Mental health is of paramount importance today. And it is not only an adult problem. Even kids are getting affected.
- Pace: Slowing down is the new fashion statement among those who can afford this luxury. For the rest, we need to give up something to create time and slow down the pace.
- Movement: Two hours spent outdoors is the new 10,000 steps. We are even willing to spend thousands of dollars to help us move using a machine.
- Teaching: Guess the teaching method at an elite private school in the San Francisco Bay Area? No technology. No laptops. No screens whatsoever. They are teaching basic skills such as the ability to think, write and draw. And who is studying there? Kids of top technology company executives and startup founders.
- Food: Almost a mass movement towards wholesome and natural foods seems to be underway. People want to know the farmer. Some people want a deeper connection to their food. And have even taken up fishing, hunting, and cultivating.
- Nature: Forest bathing is cool. Something as old as sleeping on the dirt has gone plush. Would you like a tax incentive? Then create a small wildlife restoration habitat in your backyard.
- Loneliness: Startups focusing on super-specific community niches are cropping up. Themes are from the past, but the connection happens using technology.
These problems are more relevant to the current times. Even the means and approaches to solve them are modern. But the clues lie in the past. Almost like digging a hidden treasure. Let us keep digging, it is profitable!
