Solving a Problem outside Common Perspective: Part 1
Large problems lurk right around us. Solving these overlooked problems has an outsized impact. Here are a few random examples:
Each of these is a massive area of opportunity. Executing well even on one small subset is a multi-billion dollar business. And something that will last a long time.
Upcoming Note:
- Reliable Connectivity: In most metropolitan areas, we take basic internet access for granted. But it is a hard-to-get luxury everywhere else. Access is the first step towards progress.
- Ongoing Care: Providing care can be draining. Be it for an infant, child, aging parent, or a special-needs dependent. And the cycle repeats in every generation. Then why can't we build something to ease the pain of this century-old problem?
- Primary Education: A large number of children don't get primary education. What if these children could learn outside of regular school hours? How about schools with a flexible attendance schedule? Or a community-driven approach towards making sure no child gets left behind?
- Continuous Training: Jobs based on a repetitive process are at high risk of loss. They are either automated or moved to low-cost locations. This is efficient for the business but disastrous for the individual. We need widespread availability of high-quality reskilling programs and methods. And far higher acceptance from employers besides the conventional degrees.
- Rising Obesity: Plenty of self-help options and diet programs exist for healthy living. Yet, the percentage of society getting overweight keeps increasing. There has to be an easier way to eat well, slack now and then, and still be healthy.
- Real-Life Methods: Digital immersion is a reality of today's lives. This has taken away basic skills and altered natural behavior. Skills we use to communicate, socialize and build relationships. Disappearance of natural movements. Staying calm. There has to be a better way than an occasional detox. Methods that become part of our daily routine.
- Support System: Traditional support systems have almost vanished. Focus on the individual, nuclear families, job relocations, immigration, et. al. A good support system to rely on for things small and big can be a heavenly welcome in our lives.
- Harnessing Nature: Rain, wind and sunshine aren't harnessed in most of the construction. Be it our homes, offices or buildings.
Each of these is a massive area of opportunity. Executing well even on one small subset is a multi-billion dollar business. And something that will last a long time.
