Observations from experiences on company building:
- Measurements: Every level has some measurement metrics. Even the founders. They have a board to answer to. Find out measurement metrics for each level even if you are at entry-level. It will be a crash course in understanding everything that happens in the company. You could save years and align yourself the right way!
- Blending: Culture is a big and heavy word. Good founders and managers take it with seriousness. What do you do as a team member if you are somewhat different? If the difference is too much, seek another job. Else avoid your rough edges from hurting others. Everyone is different and for the most part, there is no need to follow everything to dot.
- Test: This is like testing people around you in your personal life. Observe how your superiors treat failures, big and small. Getting exposure to risk early on in one's career can be formative. The sooner you get an opportunity to take risks, the better.
- Perfection: Founders' personalities translate into how they run the company. There is no standard shade for perfection. Some are far-right and some are centrists. Perfection slows movement. But results may be better. Pay attention to founder personalities.
