Some observations from life's experiences:
- Expectations: Do have them. But only in a few core areas of life that matter to you. If you don't have expectations, you will stay average.
- Perfection: Are you are one of those rare people who is a perfectionist and gets frustrated often? Here is a calming way. Treat perfection as an ultra-long journey with many stops along the way. Each stop is an improvement over the earlier one. This practice will also bring out the best craftsmanship in you over a sustained period.
- Calm: Now and then, get into a calm environment. Think about past decisions. And envision your future life. Calm doesn't have to be a remote and fancy location. Your room without any distractions and noise is good. Sitting inside your vehicle at a quiet spot also works.
- Decisions: Life is a function of our decisions. Small and big. A good way to make decisions is to get to them way before you need to make them. When the time comes, you are only communicating your answer. How do you make decisions like this? Keep asking and learning from your and others' experiences all the time.
- Judgment: Refrain most of the time. Two tried and tested ways that work for most people. The first is to stay quiet and imagine yourself in that context when you get thinking time. If you can't stay quiet, the second method is even simpler. Ask why. And listen. This will cause the other side to elaborate on their decision in detail. Why is one powerful word that can get you answers to many mysteries of life.
