Observations from experiences on company building:
- Founder Growth:
- As the startup grows, the founders should also grow. Failing to do so will result in extra tension during the company building process.
- The ideal case is when the founders grow faster than the startup. The best results happen when founders are in one or two orbits higher than where the startup needs them to be. It is much easier to function down than up.
- As with everything in life, achieving the ideal is hard and seems elusive. Baby steps are great. Perfection is not needed. Progress is good. Making progress a constant habit is even better.
- There are way too many ways to assess how you grow as a founder. Let us take some examples. You could take less time to do the same tasks. Or you make fewer mistakes of the same kind. Or you could communicate in a more effective way. These are good starting points. The level of difficulty is up to your ambition. You could also learn to think better. And observe surrounding business environments and read people better. Everything adds up. And ends up creating a far larger effect than what most founders realize.
- The good part is that growing does not always mean delegation. You can continue growing in the specific area you love doing. Remember to hire the best for the rest!
