Some observations from life's experiences:
- Shop: To start with, think of your livelihood as a "shop". Imagine you want to pick up your morning coffee or tea on a weekend before your hike. It is 6 am. Your favorite place does not open till late or stays shut on the weekends. What do you do? Go pick up your hot beverage from another place. The same applies to life. And this does not matter whether you work for someone or yourself. The shop has to be "open" to capitalize on opportunities. Else they land with someone else. Simple. This is why the hours you put in have a material impact. Few people do it. Make old-fashioned hard work part of your foundation. And reap better rewards than your peers.
- Benchmark: Benchmarking from time to time is a great tool for self-assessment. Whenever you feel you have achieved a lot, think of someone in the next orbit. Small improvements while cruising within an orbit are easy. Jumping to the next orbit takes serious work. Tuning your thinking around orbits will also help you from getting arrogant.
- Arrogance: Arrogance. Pride. Chip on the shoulder. Inflated sense of self. All these might feel good for a short while. They are like a temporary high you get after a few drinks. Being on a high with arrogance will make you shut doors. Doors that lead to good things. Be normal and keep all the doors open.
- Corners: Dirt lurks in the corners. The biggest decisions in life are similar. Explore as many corner cases as possible before taking a big call. You won't be able to predict the future. But your mind will get trained in an amazing way for the future.
